Listen to the MUSTN'Ts, child. Listen to the DON'Ts. Listen to the SHOULDN'Ts, the IMPOSSIBLEs, the WON'Ts.
Listen to the NEVER HAVES, then listen close to me-   ANYTHING can happen, child. ANYTHING can be.     ~ Shel Silverstein

Some people believe that students with significant cognitive disabilities cannot successfully learn academic content. Studies show that this is a misperception. The education system should start with the assumption that every child can learn. This is called “the least dangerous assumption” because exposing students to learning is not harmful, but keeping them from it is.

Although we no longer use this program, it was helpful for skills practice and teacher reports to see student progress.

Lexia Reading software supports reading skills development in students at all levels of ability, Pre-K through Adult, building skills with explicit practice in phonemic awareness and phonics while promoting gains in fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

There are three different levels in the Lexia Reading Program.

Early Reading is geared towards kindergarten.

Primary Reading is geared towards grades 1, 2, 3.

Strategies for Older Students is geared towards grades 3-6.

IMMEDIATE FEEDBACK for STUDENTS

Picture
Each activity is graphed and the bars are filled to the top when that skill is completed. Yellow dots at the top of the bar indicate the student is having a hard time with that skill. Stars at the top of each bar indicate a particular skill has been completed.

IMMEDIATE FEEDBACK for TEACHERS

Teacher reports can be created for each student or for a class as a whole. Reports provide the date, time on task, which skill was worked on, and the percentage correct for the skill.

This example shows the student working on the beginning sounds of m and s (shown on the top right of the boxes).
